Inter Provincial Air Tour 2018
The 11th. annual Inter Provincial Air Tour (IPAT) was scheduled to begin in Orillia On. on Thursday May 31st. Due to less that ideal VRF weather forecasts with strong winds many of us elected to fly into Orillia (CNP3) on Wednesday afternoon.
Thursday was indeed a mixed bag of weather with some rain and low clouds. A few airplanes did manage to come in VFR but others elected to drive. The Orillia restaurant put on a terrific lunch for us and Marilyn presented a plaque to the airport manager.
Friday the weather again was not the best for the trip to Arnprior On. However, all of were able to make the trip and arrive in time for lunch and the plaque presentation.
At 5pm Friday afternoon we boarded two buses that took us into down town Ottawa for a dinner cruise on the Ottawa river. This was a wonderful outing with lots of laughs, good food and great friends.
Saturday turned out to be a fantastic weather day with blue skies and light winds. Quite a few took advantage of the great weather and flew out to one of 3 planned Fly-outs, others stayed in town taking in various activities taking place incl. a music festival in the local park.
Everyone were back at the airport in time for for a fabulous hangar party sponsored in part by the local COPA Flight 33. Again, good food and good music even a very talented magician showed up to entertain us.
There were 95 people, 38 airplanes and 9 cars on the tour. I know for sure that the number of cars would have been far less had the weather been better on Thursday and Friday.
Photo Credits with thanks goes to: Lee and Marilyn, Susan McDowell, Wayne Price, Flavelle Barrett and Ivan Kristensen.
